Initiated by the shadows she observed on the ground and shadows on the ground, the artist spent months experimenting with a method to convey objects in two dimensions onto canvas. If the object is alive or a thing that can be eaten, like humans and fruits, they become a painting of their own. Alexa's style of painting is ephemeral and only the photographs of her work survive. Because the photography and painting methods are closely coordinated, the end result is an illusion of trompe l'oeil, in which the illusion of 3D is only visible at certain locations, like the eye area and the hair. Meade often integrates her model in the environment around her that allows the model to be a part of the context of their own. By doing so, Meade is able to blur the lines between painting, photography and performance.
